Another Country On Board for Universal Health Care
As our country faces a massive health care reform movement, China has announced that is will join the ranks of the overwhelming number of developed countries with some type of universal health care system in place. China has announced that it will devote $123 billion to developing a universal health care system over the next couple of years to care for the roughly 1.3 billion citizens there. The idea is to secure affordable and accessible health care for everyone, but it is aimed primarily at the common citizen. China hopes that this will actually serve to stimulate a slow economy, seeing as China generally has a high savings rate because its citizens fear health care costs with no good health insurance system in place. If that fear were removed with affordable, accessible, and reliable health care, Chinese citizens may be willing to spend more freely, thus stimulating the slow economy. Do you think this will succeed? Will America ever achieve a similar system of health care?
I hope not!
I don’t think this will stimulate the economy since you have to have money in order to spend it. As for it working in America… Not as long as we are still capitalists.
