Drugs in the Water Supply?

An investigation made by the Associated Press recently uncovered the millions of pounds of pharmacueticals which were released into the public drinking supply by United States drug makers and other large manufacturers. The most frightening aspect being that these dumps were made legally via and agreeement with the Federal government that amounts to “don’t ask, don’t tell.” Also found in wastewater downstream from drug makers were large levels opiates, barbiturates and tranquilizers. How does this affect public wellness both in the long and short term? How can these companies be allowed to engage in such activity?
