It's hard to fathom this problem. Canada has had an all encompassing medical coverage for decades paid via tax dollars and a small contribution from each member. For instance I pay $110 p/m which covers my entire family. There is also a premium assistance program for those in financial distress where the premiums are paid for them.

I just don't understand how 300+ million taxpayers have a problem in directing your political leaders in implimenting a program that you only need to look north to see what 35 million have successfully done.

I can't fathom medical bankruptcy, not being able to afford a doctor or a hospital visit.

Why do you allow this?

We will have to wait and see what he comes up with. It is a large task at hand with many components but with little steps I'm sure improvements will be on the horizon.

It is one thing for people to be covered, but like the article said, if these people can't afford their copays or prescriptions, is this insurance coverage really taking care of the issue at hand.

I think it will take time before you see any dramatic changes. In those changes, I have to believe that the quality of health care will be just as important as making sure everyone is covered. The issues mentioned in this article about people not affording coverage are issues right now as well. We will see what happens...
