Sebelius Grants Extra Assistance with Health Care
Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius signed into law legislation which will aid the growing number of unemployed citizens in the state. The legislation will direct federal stimulus money to subsidize the state’s COBRA program which allows those who have been laid off from their job continued access to their company’s group health insurance policy. Previously, premiums for the COBRA program have been so high that few could afford the premium payments, and went without. This results in a rapidly growing portion of the population being without health insurance and therefor relying on public assistance. The decision to aid people in affording to keep their COBRA coverage seems wise, as the money would likely be spent in greater quantity down the line for emergency room visits and to fund other public health programs. Do you agree with her decision?
