Staggering Numbers
Since the start of the recession, an estimated 4 million Americans have lost their health insurance and as many as 14,000 are losing their coverage every day. These numbers come from the Center for American Progress’ Action Fund, a republican think tank. The report also asserts that of the 4 million, about half of them remain uninsured, adding to the 46 million that were uninsured even before the recession began. Millions of people now rely on overburdened government programs such as Medicaid and SCHIP, which are now in need of additional federal funding to remain viable. How many uninsured citizens can our government support?
