Tax Changes to Provide For Health Insurance Reform
Proposals were made in the White House today to make an additional $59 billion in changes to the tax code in order to pay for the cost of health insurance reform in this country. These changes are designed to contribute to Obama’s “health reform reserve fund” which will pay for the costly, but much needed, overhaul to our health insurance system. Obama had also made plans to change the administration of Medicare, removing the middle man and requiring the program to be available only directly from the government, which would save a predicted $175 billion over 10 years. With provisions in place to cover the cost of reform, will efforts to bring it about be successful this time around?
