The Fight for Children’s Health Insurance
The issue of expanding the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, or SCHIP, has come up twice before and been vetoed each time by President Bush. However, as Obama takes control of the White House this month, the issue seems like a lock. With a sagging economy and more people without jobs and health insurance, the issue of protecting the country’s many vulnerable children seems that much more important. Plans are in place to increase spending to cover the many children whose families are not poor enough for Medicaid, but cannot afford insurance on their own. How will there be enough money in the budget to aid the increasing number of cases which fall into this category?
